The Plasma Cutter is just as good but less so with crowd controll on pack/crawlers. Obviously the PR can take a limb off but is better for crawlers/pack/exploders because of its low ammo/kill ratio. When you think about it, the Pulse Rifle and Plasma Cutter fulfill the same roles with some minor differences. What I've found to be more effective is to use two weapons in a Primary and Support role. Then they'll ration out power nodes to multiple weapons, meaning incremental upgrades over the course of a playthrough. Plasma Cutter, then something like Pulse Rifle plus another weapon of their choosing. Most players will fill their weapons slots with 3 or 4 weapons. ![]() Long answer: I've discovered that a more effective way to play the game where you have the best outcome is a primary/support loadout. Short answer: Plasma only is fine, get good at using Kinesis to spear enemies with other enemy spear arms. So a ton of weapons are viable throughout the game.
